Oz Pearlman
Mentalist and Entertainer
Can he truly read your mind? How does he know so much about your past...things even you have forgotten? Is this real or is it magic? You don’t want to miss witnessing Oz Pearlman, the mentalist, in action! AEF is thrilled to have Oz Pearlman, world-renowned mentalist and magician, as our guest and entertainer for the 2017 Ivalu Gala! We hope you can join us and make his first time trip to Alaska an unforgettable experience.
More about Oz Pearlman
Oz Pearlman is one of the busiest performing mentalists in the country. He developed an interest in magic at a young age and what started as a hobby ended up becoming a lifelong passion. After a couple of years spent working on Wall Street, Oz decided to pursue his dream and become a full time entertainer. He has now been dazzling audiences with his world-class sleight of hand and mind reading ability for over a decade.
Oz amazed the country on TV’s #1 rated show, America’s Got Talent. Week after week, he performed mindblowing mentalism routines never seen before and quickly became a fan favorite, finishing in third place out of thousands of acts. His client list reads like a who's who of politicians, professional athletes, A-list celebrities, and Fortune 500 companies. Oz’s other television appearances have aired on both national and international networks, including a recent appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon & TODAY Show; his radio appearance on the top-rated Elvis Duran show in the morning was heard by millions across the nation.
His natural charisma and charm make him the perfect choice for corporate events and private parties alike. Oz’s unique blend of magic and mentalism create an interactive experience that is redefining the very nature of a magic show...one that truly needs to be seen to be believed.

About AEF

Arctic Education Foundation (AEF) was established in 1977 as nonprofit private foundation committed to providing support to eligible students pursuing a degree or certification. The goal of AEF is to create an educated, Iñupiaq-professional workforce that is ready to take on any job, especially those that require professionals within the North Slope region. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements and display a financial need are granted funding.

  • In 2015 alone, AEF awarded nearly 500 scholarships to 307 students
  • $1.4m was awarded in educational assistance in 2015
  • Nearly 200 students being assisted by AEF in 2015 were enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate programs
Thank you to our contributors for making this possible!
*Arctic Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) exempt private foundation. Checks can be made payable to Arctic Education Foundation, P.O. Box 129 Barrow, AK 99723.
GUIDING THE WAY FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS
In the Iñupiaq culture the word Ivalu holds a special meaning. It means thread, or bind, and it comes from the sinew of our Native caribou. For thousands of years it has been vital to the survival of our people - allowing our umiaq (skin boat) to float, our clothes to be sewn.
Today Ivalu remains just as important. It’s the thread that serves our traditions and represents the bond that ties our people together.
The Arctic Education Foundation honors Ivalu through its inaugural gala to support our young people, helping them achieve success through education.
2nd Annual Ivalu Gala
February 12th, 2016
2016 Flossie Hopson-Andersen Award
Leona Okakok
Leona Okakok was awarded with the 2nd Annual Flossie Hopson-Andersen award for her long time support and dedication or AEF. Leona tirelessly helped many AEF scholars throughout the years and is a very special person who had a hand in so many of the successes that have come out of the foundation. Leona was joined by her husband and family at the 2016 Ivalu Gala to receive this award.
2016 Umialik Award
Conoco Phillips
In 2016, AEF honored Conoco Phillips with the 2nd Annual Umialik Award, which means whaling captain or boss. Conoco Phillips is a company that has been with AEF since the beginning… an international company with a real local presence. Conoco Phillips has been a contributor to AEF for many, many years donating nearly 70-thousand dollars to AEF… just since 2007! Nick Olds, with ConocoPhillips was present to accept this award on their behalf.
Inaugural Ivalu Gala

2015 Flossie Hopson-Andersen Award
Flossie Hopson-Anderson
The inaugural gala debuted the first Flossie Hopson-Anderson Award to the one who deserved it the most, Flossie Hopson-Andersen. Flossie was instrumental in the foundation becoming a nonprofit and has personally helped many of the executives that run Arctic Slope Regional Corporation today. It was an honor to have this award created in her namesake, and to honor her with this award in front of friends, families, and AEF supporters. Flossie was joined by her husband and family to receive this award.
2015 Umialik Award
Chevron & BP
The inaugural Umialik Award, which means whaling captain or boss, was presented to two long time AEF supporters, BP Alaska and Chevron. The inaugural Ivalu Gala was the first public platform to honor longtime supporters to AEF, so having to choose between both companies was an impossible decision. AEF was happy to honor both companies with the inaugural Umiliak Award as a small token of our gratitude. Phil Cochrane, with BP Alaska, and Kevin Donley, with Chevron, were both present to receive this award.
We hope you enjoy this exclusive sneak peek at our 2016 Live Auction pieces. Each Live Auction item will also include a matching Atigluk (kuspak)!
